The church of St Lukas in Apella

St Lukas is a church carved in a natural cave with a vaulted single room narthex and another exterior narthex which is nowadays forfeited. It is located in Apella in the county of Volada in Karpathos, in a wooded slope that leads to a scenic beach. Excavations showed that the temple was part of a larger complex. The frescoes attributed to a virtuous painter connect the monument with other similar of the second half of the 13th c., so this is the period during which it must be dated.
